What is bakuchiol?
Bakuchiol is a plant-derived active (from Psoralea corylifolia) shown to deliver retinol-like results—smoother texture, fewer fine lines, more even tone—without the typical irritation. It’s antioxidant, barrier-friendly, and suitable for most skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone.
Why do people call bakuchiol “nature’s retinol”?
Because multiple studies show bakuchiol can improve wrinkles, pigmentation, and photoaging similarly to retinol—but tends to be better tolerated and not photosensitizing. Translation: you can use it day or night and still wear sunscreen as usual.
Bakuchiol is ultra sensitive and you won't ever experience "retinol burn" like retinol products.
What is Sytenol® A—and why does it matter?
Sytenol® A is the gold-standard, certified form of pure bakuchiol used in the majority of clinical research. Not all “bakuchiol” on the market is standardized; Sytenol® A guarantees identity, purity, and batch consistency so you’re getting the results the studies are based on.
How is your bakuchiol different from others?
Youth Nectar uses 2% Sytenol® A (not a generic extract), in an oil system designed to deliver actives while staying gentle. We say it's 100% optimized because we didn't just simply add in inexpensive filler oils and call it a day. We layered in other vitamin A-rich oils and even the most powerful antioxidant in skincare, astaxanthin! Many serums use low or undisclosed percentages or non-standardized sources.
Will bakuchiol make my skin sun-sensitive?
No—bakuchiol is not known to be phototoxic or photosensitizing. Daily SPF is still smart skincare, but you don’t need to avoid daytime use because of bakuchiol.
Is Youth Nectar safe for sensitive or acne-prone skin?
Yes. The formula is fragrance-free, essential-oil-free, and non-comedogenic by design. Bakuchiol also shows benefits for blemish-prone skin while supporting barrier comfort. Many have used it successfully as a treatment for acne.
Can I use this if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
Bakuchiol is often chosen as a retinol alternative during pregnancy because it’s not a retinoid. That said, always review your routine with your healthcare provider.
Why does the serum have a slight tint?
That warm hue comes from astaxanthin, a powerhouse antioxidant. If you see a brief tint on application, keep massaging—it absorbs quickly. As an antioxidant, astaxanthin is 6000 times more potent than Vitamin C, and 550 times more potent than Vitamin E.
Is it really 100% plant-derived?
Yes—no fillers or synthetics. It’s vegan, fragrance-free, essential-oil-free, and packaged in glass.
Will it clog pores or cause acne?
Bakuchiol is actually used to treat acne. We have also selected lightweight, skin-identical oils (squalane, camellia) and balanced fatty-acid profiles to stay non-comedogenic for most skin types.
Is bakuchiol better than retinol for sensitive skin?

I absolutely love the Youth Nectar. It is very soothing to my skin. I did laser treatments at the dermatologist and this was the only thing that soothed my skin after the treatments. It absorbs well, I use it in the morning and at night. My skin is very dry and this helps so much. I am on my 3rd bottle of it and will continue to re order it.
